Hey everybody, this is Gary Vaynerchuk , author of "Crush It!!" and this is for SpendLessTV's real interesting take on how to be a customer in today's new caring economy.

We're living in a world where brands and businesses are paying attention to the individual one consumer on a level that I don't think anybody ever anticipated.

You know I don't care how much of a caring company you were in the '60's or 70's you couldn't scale it, you couldn't listen to people's conversations in their homes and so this is creating a very interesting economy, one that I'm writing about in my next book called, "The Thank You Economy", and from the consumer's standpoint I think it's very, very interesting on how maybe a customer wants to approach being a customer that can get that kind of great service.

And I don't think it's always Tweeting out or Facebooking that you're pissed at service, I think it's the other way around, you know, talking about good and bad moments and hopefully, by average, as we know, most are good.

And so, I think communicating as a customer is very important. I think communicating wherever you are, whether it's on Facebook or Twitter, is very important. ... those two big platforms, but there's many others, wherever you may be fishing, or speaking, or socializing or interacting is definitely a great place to kind of add your two-cents to your thoughts.

I think the other great thing you can do is interact with brands. "At" "@" replying people on Twitter that are active brands is an amazing opportunity to get to know people and things of that nature.

So I think it really comes down to a little bit of hustle and grind, you know, going out there, reaching out, in a public forum. You know sending and e-mail to Best Buy is going to be very different than "At" "@" Best Buy, and that, I think, is what a lot of consumers need to understand: the public domains and transparency of the new social web allowing them to be heard not only by the brands, but other brands who are watching, other people... it changes the landscape of the relationship.

And so, I would say communicating...what's the best way to have a healthy relationship, a good marriage, good friends? Communication. And I think a lot of times consumers expect brands to know what they're thinking. So I think communication and authentic transparent communication, very much like the brands, is the way to be successful as a consumer.
